                                Carpenter - Nuclear

A Nuclear Carpenter is a skilled professional responsible for constructing, installing, and removing forms and scaffolding based on detailed blueprints. This role requires precision, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a nuclear environment. Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including meeting fitness for duty requirements.


Essential Functions:
  • Perform all job duties safely according to job requirements.
  • Clean, inspect, repair (if necessary), and stack forms.
  • Assist in proper form removal and installation.
  • Maintain a clean work area and ensure good housekeeping.
  • Identify and use carpentry tools effectively.
  • Demonstrate proper use of non-power hand tools.
  • Demonstrate proper use of various tools, including portable power tools.
  • Install shoring and bracing.
  • Select, measure, and cut materials accurately.
  • Demonstrate proper use of shop power tools.
  • Read and interpret advanced blueprints.
  • Erect and disassemble commercial scaffolding.
  • Fabricate and install job-built scaffolding.
  • Perform detailed layout work.
  • Perform framing and proper installation of framed openings.
  • Perform craft-related math.
  • Wear a respirator as needed (blood pressure no higher than 150/90).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Prior nuclear power plant experience, highly desired.
  • Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including fitness for duty requirements.
  • Successful completion of all training including, Radiation Worker Training, Plant Access Training, Fitness for Duty, etc.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble objects and operate small equipment and power tools.
  • Availability for shift work, if needed.
  • Ability to support other crafts as requested.
  • Ability to work at varying heights, in cramped quarters, extreme heat and/or cold, and loud environments (above 89 decibels).
  • Knowledge of relevant processes and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain knowledge of technical manuals and procedures.
  • Ability to pass specific training and qualifications.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to pass all background and screening requirements, including drug and/or alcohol screening.

  • Visual acuity, balancing, stooping, reaching, walking, manual dexterity, grasping, feeling, hearing, talking.
  • Capacity to think, concentrate, and focus for long periods.
  • Ability to read and write complex documents in English.
  • Capacity to reason and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to express thoughts orally.
  • Strategic thinking and planning for growth.
  • Ability to walk job sites and climb.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
