The Project Director will provide services to support all aspects of the Kewaunee D&D Project for EnergySolutions Nuclear Services (ESNS), ensuring that the project is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with all regulatory requirements, union agreements, and client expectations. The ESNS Director will provide strategic leadership, manage multidisciplinary teams, and act as the ESNS central point of coordination between owners, contractors, union representatives, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and direction for the ESNS nuclear project from initiation through completion and close-out.
Develop and implement project execution strategies that prioritize safety, quality, cost control, and schedule adherence.
Foster a culture of safety and regulatory compliance, ensuring all activities adhere to nuclear industry standards and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Lead and motivate a diverse team that includes union trades, construction managers, engineers, and other key personnel.
Serve as the primary point of contact for ESNS union leadership, facilitating collaboration and effective communication to resolve labor issues and maintain project harmony.
Understand and manage to current labor agreements in conjunction with union representatives and project management.
Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and schedules, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
Coordinate with regulatory agencies (NRC, OSHA, etc.) to ensure the project meets all relevant codes, licensing, and reporting obligations.
Oversee procurement, contract negotiation, and management of subcontractors and vendors.
Prepare and present regular project status reports to executive management and stakeholders, highlighting progress, challenges, and solutions.
Champion best practices in quality assurance, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field
Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in large-scale construction projects, with at least 5 years in the nuclear power sector.
Demonstrated experience managing union construction projects and effective labor relations.
Comprehensive knowledge of nuclear industry codes, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
Proven track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Strong leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build consensus among diverse groups.
Exceptional problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
Familiarity with project management software and reporting tools.
Preferred Attributes
PE (Professional Engineer) or PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
Experience with decommissioning or nuclear construction projects.
Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and union work rules specific to the nuclear industry.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Work Environment and Conditions
Project-based at the Kewaunee site; travel may be required for stakeholder meetings.
Must be able to obtain and maintain all required security and safety clearances.
Occasional extended hours and weekend work as project milestones require.
