Performs a variety of engineering calculations using classical techniques or computer code methods to document compliance with project and regulatory requirements, which may include; radionuclide distribution analyses, interpretation of laboratory sample analyses and assisting in developing sample plans .
Provides technical expertise and guidance to develop, manage and implement engineering analysis, activities and programs to identify project packaging plans for waste disposal activities.

Ensures relevant design criteria, specifications, practices, procedures, codes, site design and safety and licensing basis are used in preparation of design media.

Works in multi-discipline teams on project-based work and ensures integration of waste generation, packaging plans, transportation requirements and disposal site requirements across multiple disciplines and work groups.

Understands, complies and is responsible for working to project waste packaging and disposal and procedures, and attends meetings as required. Provides supervision and leadership to members of the project implementation teams.
Recommends new concepts and techniques to improve performance, reduce cost, or to comply with changes in project requirements or regulatory requirements.
Participates in the preparation of cost estimates for engineering services to internal and external clients and coordinates work assignments to meet project-established schedules and budgets.
Relies on extensive experience and judgment.
Leads and directs the work of others if needed.

Job Requirements/Skills
Training and experience in completing characterization activities.
Familiarity with the 1983, 1995 and the 2015 Nuclear Regulatory Commission technical position papers for Waste Sampling and Characterization and Concentration Averaging and Encapsulation.
Familiarity with NRC 10 CFR 20, 10 CFR 37, 10 CFR 61 and 10 CFR 71.
Familiarity with NUREG 1608, NUREG 0204 and NUREG 2155
Familiarity with 49 CFR 100 – 185 as it relates to radioactive and hazardous material packaging and transportation.
Familiarity with 40 CFR 260 – 265 as it relates to mixed radioactive / hazardous waste
Strong communication skills – able to interact with all other project organizations or outside regulatory agencies.
Advanced knowledge of Nuclear Engineering Analysis software and Microsoft office
Detailed knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application
Detailed knowledge of industry codes and regulations
Detailed knowledge of management of complex engineering projects
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to carry up to 10 pounds; handle and reach below shoulder
Ability to use hands to accomplish tasks as assigned
Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb and bend/stoop
Ability to effectively communicate; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
Ability to see close and distance; basic colors/shades
Ability to work inside an office, outside and in extreme temperatures

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree requiredin nuclear, chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering or a related science (e.g., physics) or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training

A minimum of 2 years of experience providing nuclear safety support at a commercial or DOE nuclear facility
