Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing and leading US Department of Energy market business development strategy and sales program coordinating with the Senior VP of Federal Business development  to successfully identify and evaluate project opportunity pipeline, and to develop and capture new business opportunities; establishing relationships with potential customers; work with operations, technical and proposal staff to ensure excellent proposal delivery; and managing existing customers with existing business and generating new business. To include: managing and/or developing yearly performance plans, short/mid/long term strategic initiatives, opportunity specific capture plans and marketing strategies, and supporting related proposal efforts. Inform customers of new products and services as they are introduced and recommend products and services that fit well with customer business needs. Provide ongoing support to high value customers ensuring they receive high quality customer service. Fully support the opportunity pipeline, and budget and forecasting process with accurate information based on customer engagement.
  • Leads business development activities for DOE market segment and captures new business for all aspects of EnergySolutions’ remediation, D&D, and project service offerings.  Identifies new business opportunities through customer and industry contacts, business opportunity portals, Request for Proposals, FedConnect, SAM.gov, and other means.
  • Responsible, as a customer relationship manager (CRM), for managing the growth of customer relationships for assigned customers within a specific market segment.
  • Responsible for the growth strategy for assigned customers (i.e., in the government, nuclear utilities, fuel, industrial, or broker process markets).
  • Builds successful business relationships by delivering a value proposition that is attractive to both customers and prospective business partners.
  • Develops, maintains and builds a strong professional network and customer relationships.
  • Coordinates company resources in the pursuit and capture of new work.
  • Develops capture plans for specific targets that address opportunities, preferred approaches, competitive analyses and business fundamentals.
  • Identifies teaming partners, develops teaming agreements and obtains appropriate internal support and approvals.
  • Negotiates teaming agreements, scopes of work, contract types and business models that are consistent with the company’s risk profile and that result in favorable financial outcomes.
  • Gathers market and customer intelligence.
  • Oversees business development staff activities to ensure the staff are pursuing sales within existing contract vehicles, establishing new contracts, and are being provided with new products to sell, as applicable. Manages proposal budgets for target segments.
  • Responsible for the content of proposals developed.
  • Manages and supports proposal activities in winning new contracts for the company.
  • Coordinates with division leaders within operations functions in developing proposals.
  • Responsible for obtaining necessary approvals (i.e., Business Development and Operations personnel with the appropriate level of signature authority) on all proposals prior to their submittal.
  • Handles proposal delivery to customers and interfaces with all customers on requests and issues.
  • Understands, in broad terms, customer contracts and business planning activities. Engages corporate resources (e.g., Contracts, Legal and Procurement managers) to ensure contract terms and conditions are appropriately handled.
  • Communicates and engages company technical experts (i.e., TSMs and Operations personnel) to develop solutions to customer challenges.
  • Coordinates and supports the yearly budget and monthly forecast processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Intermediate knowledge of the use of Microsoft Office products and project controls-specific software
  • Proven ability as a business developer winning work
  • Detailed understanding of contract development work with the ability to understand, analyze and apply complex scientific and engineering data
  • Detailed knowledge of EnergySolutions experience and capabilities and detailed knowledge of customer site operations
  • Proven ability to win and manage very large revenue-generating accounts
  • Proven ability of managing a diverse team of various levels of skills and backgrounds to exceed desired results
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to carry and handle up to 15 pounds; reach below shoulder
  • Ability to use hands to accomplish tasks as assigned
  • Ability to effectively communicate; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
  • Ability to see close and distance; basic colors/shades
  • Ability to work inside an office
  • Ability to work with others and interact with the public
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required in business, engineering, scientific or other relevant discipline
Certifications
  • None required
  • Project Management certification desired
Required Experience
  • A minimum of 15 years of combined technical, project execution and business development/industry-related experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in business development
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with industry projects and/or facility operations
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience in the nuclear industry
  • Previous federal and DOE business development and proposal experience
  • Both large TIER 1 and Tier 2 contracting and business development experience
  • Experience with SalesForce, GovWin, Fed Connect and SAM.gov
