Waste Management Specialist
Job Description
- Interprets waste management and transportation rules, regulations and policies in the proper compliant management of facility waste, including low level and transuranic waste (TRU), hazardous waste.
- Teams and interfaces with treatment, storage, disposal, generators and/or other customers and regulators to resolved specific waste management related concerns.
- Reviews existing procedures and prepares revisions and checklist updates to incorporate regulatory requirements and changes as well as customer driven revisions.
- Serves as the primary Shipper / Broker for the Erwin ResinSolutions facility.
- Responsible for all rad shipments and inspects incoming and outgoing shipments to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Prepares containers for shipment including manifests, labeling, marking and inspection of packages and conducts receipt surveys and document review for incoming shipments.
- Coordinates shipments with generators, disposal sites and transportation.
- Works under general supervision.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Skills
- Working knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations (WAC, MTCA, RCRA, CERLA and TSCA)
- Organized and disciplined approach to documentation, development, maintenance and tracking of waste activities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and push up to 200 pounds; handle, grip, and reach above or below shoulder
- Ability to use hands to accomplish tasks as assigned
- Ability to walk and bend/stoop
- Ability to effectively communicate; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
- Ability to see close and distance, basic colors and shades
- Ability to work inside an office and outside
- Ability to work alone and work with others; perform under deadline pressure
- Ability to drive a vehicle
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience
Certifications
- 40 hour Hazwoper training
- Q Clearance or the ability to obtain a Q clearance
Required Experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience
Preferred Experience
- 10 years of experience
