Establishes and implements Quality Control (QC) efforts to ensure conformance to quality standards and regulatory compliance. Is responsible for the inspection of products to ensure they conform to all regulatory requirements. Oversees vendor performance to ensure acceptance of products and services.
Provides oversight, direction and training to QC staff to ensure all QC activities are conducted in compliance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures and to ensure high quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers.
Manages staff selection, development and retention. Establishes and monitors work goals and objectives. Evaluates employees through performance reviews, ongoing coaching and feedback methods.
Provides direction and guidance to QC inspectors on all inspection and test matters.
Provides effective QC oversight and support to the Business Group’s operational units.
Ensures QC resources are adequate to support operations.
Develops and maintains QC plans and procedures.
Develops inspection plans and QC checklists used during fabrication activities.
Reviews and approves vendor submittal documents such as welding procedure specifications, performance qualification records, nondestructive examination (NDE) procedures, NDE personnel qualifications/certifications, inspection and test plans and procedures.
Performs independent inspections of completed products for conformance with specified requirements.
Assists and supports the resolution of nonconforming conditions.
Evaluates the effectiveness of corrective actions to resolve nonconformances.
Prepares and administers budget according to plan. Monitors budget variances. Provides explanations on variances and takes appropriate action.
Follows organizational policies and procedures and ensures staff is in compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Skills
Strong background in performing vendor evaluations and managing the inspection/acceptance of delivered products
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Detailed understanding of quality assurance and quality control regulations and standards
Ability to manage and/or monitor multiple projects and activities occurring simultaneously
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to handle, grip and reach above or below shoulder
Ability to use hands to accomplish tasks as assigned
Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend/stoop and balance
Ability to effectively communicate; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
Ability to see close and distance; basic colors/shades
Ability to work inside an office, outside and in extreme temperatures
Ability to work with moving objects/hazardous machines and slippery/uneven walking surfaces
Ability to work alone, work with others, and interact with the public
Ability to drive a vehicle, travel overnight and perform under deadline pressure
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience in engineering or a relevant discipline
Certifications
Certification as a weld inspector in radiographic inspection (RT), in liquid penetrant inspection (PT) and in magnetic particle inspection (MT) nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques
Required Experience
A minimum of 15 years of experience in quality control
A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience
Experience in developing QC programs for the fabrication of nuclear facility systems, structures and components
